The Nine-Fold Ascent

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 978-1-930409-59-0
Pages: 158 pages

The teachings presented here outline a course towards spiritual realization that has rarely been made available before. This book focuses on details of the Naqshbandi Sufi path, with emphasis on the responsibility of the disciple to make progress and advances in his spiritual discipline based on pure love and longing for the Divine Presence. Starting with initiation at the hands of the master, the book outlines the steps needed for the devoted seeker to attain actual gnosis, reaching the level where he or she is able to connect and communicate with masters, both living and passed on, who are able to provide direct spiritual support in assisting the seeker in reaching ever higher levels. The book is essentially a manual in reaching the State of Perfection,Maqam al-Ihsan, which the Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be God's peace and blessings) described as "to worship God as if you see Him and if you do not see Him, to know He sees you." This station is the first goal of the seeker in setting forth on the way of spiritual ascension. While this station is not the seeker's ultimate destination, realizing it is considered the first step into the circle of true seekers, those whose vision is supported by God and who receive inspiration from the Divine Presence.

Who are The Guides?

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 978-1-930409-55-2

Pages: 206 pages

For 150 years, extremists have battled to obliterate spiritual practices and secret knowledge that has flowed through the veins of Islam for fifteen centuries. This book is the antidote, depicting ancient wisdom of guides of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order, passed only from master to disciple. Following Banquet for the Soul (2008), the first volume of Grandshaykh Abd Allah’s Notes Series,Who are the Guides? outlines a spiritual discipline that generates the mind/body/spirit dynamic we crave, in a shallow world dominated by texting, Facebook, and Twitter.

Grandshaykh’s explanations are directed to those seekers who understand the Sufi Way, who have accompanied saints for a long time, who are willing to open their minds and hearts to the intense love of Allah, His Messenger and the spiritual guides, and who seek Oneness with them. Deep spiritual secrets are revealed: of how Creation flows from the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad, the treasures of our divine worship, and how to accelerate our progress on the Path. Who are the Guides?devotes particular attention to the hierarchy and characteristics of the four levels of murshid (spiritual guide): tabarrûk, tazkîyyah, tasfîyyah, and tarbîyyah. Details of the responsibilities, specific powers, and miracles of Sultan al-Awlîyâ, the Ghawth, and the fiveaqtâb (the qutbs) are also defined. Who are the Guides? provides a unique organizational chart, if you will, of the most powerful guides and how to access them, and is a brilliant addition to anytasawwuf-based library.

ISBN: 978-1-930409-56-9
Pages: 280 pages

This book represents a landmark in the publication of rare, hidden, spiritual secrets more precious than all the gold stored in Fort Knox, the sum total of African-mined diamonds, or the volume of stock trades on NASDAQ.

What on earth could be so valuable? At a higher level, the fast purifies the seekers' hearts replacing negative traits such as greed, anger, worldliness and jealousy with the positive ones of generosity, contentment, and a desire to serve. In predawn hours they sit with the author, observing ancient forms meditation and remembrance that sanctify the gathering, ushering it into the spiritual realm, at which time authentic internal knowledge is ready to be transmitted.

Islamic Beliefs And Doctrine According to Ahl al-Sunna: A Repudiation of "Salafi" Innovations

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 1871031486

"Two imams have been severely tried because of their followers although they are innocent of them: Ahmad ibn Hanbal was tried with the Mujassima (anthropomorphsits), and Ja'far al-Sadiq was tried with the rafida (rejectionists)." [Shaykh al-Hadith Ibn al-Salah(d.643H.) as quoted by Taj al-Din al-Subki in his Qa'ida fi al-jarhi wa al-ta'dil, p.43] We may add that in later times Islam itself was tried with Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab, who claimed to defend it and uphold its pure doctrine, when in fact they corrupted it and tore apart its community with their confusion. Just as Imam Ahmad is clear of them, Islam and Muslims as a whole are also clear of them.

A Spiritual Commentary on the Chapter of Sincerity

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 19304094207
Pages: 130 pages

The subject of the present commentary is on Suratu 'l-Ikhlas or the Chapter of Single-Hearted Sincerity. The word ikhlas carries the meaning "to purify" or "to refine" from all impurities. The very concept of refining and purifying signifies the removing all impurities leaving nothing but the essence of which was sought, which, in this case, is Allah. Thus, whoever knows Allah and affirms His Oneness reaches the level of purity or sincerity of heart.

"Purity of heart," it has been said "is to will one thing wholly." And the one who achieves that level is described in Arabic with the adjective, "mukhlis," that is sincere. The virtue of single-hearted devotion to Allah goes to the heart of the religion of Islam. This is hardly surprising. So it is not surprising that tradition holds the reading this chapter just once a reading the entire Qur'an. For the Qur'an in its essence is totally uncompromising proclamation of Divine Unity.

The Approach of Armageddon?

A Chronicle of Scientific Breakthroughs and World Events that Occur During the Last Days, as Foretold by Prophet Muhammad. Many people are acquainted with Biblical prophecies regarding the end of the world, but how many know what the second-largest faith, Islam, has foretold? Time-honored beliefs held by one-fifth of the world’s population, but little known in the West, are expertly presented in this compelling book. A classical scholar from one of the Middle East's most prestigious religious schools, the author has studied classical Islamic teachings for more than forty years. In this timely work, he examines divine revelation and holy traditions about the Last Days, along with discoveries of modern science foretold in Islam’s holiest texts. Also included are often concealed ancient predictions of Islam regarding the appearance of the anti-Christ, Armageddon, the leadership of believers by Mahdi (i.e. "the Savior"), the second coming of Jesus Christ, and the tribulations preceding the Day of Judgment. The author weaves a fascinating mix of interpretations and detailed narratives of Prophet Muhammad which provide a roadmap of the future and analysis of the past. Though terrifying in their import, we are given final hope of a time on earth filled with peace, reconciliation and prosperity, an age in which, "There will be but one community on earth where lions, tigers and wolves shall graze side by side with camels, cattle and sheep. All enmity and wars will end, while wealth is overflowing. No person shall be in need and the entire focus of life will be spirituality." This unprecedented work is a "must read" for religious scholars and laypersons interested in broadening their understanding of centuries-old religious traditions pertaining to the Last Days. About the Author Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani is a scholar from the Middle East. He graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry from the American University of Beirut and then went to Louvain, Belgium to continue his medical studies. He later received his Islamic law degree. Other books by the shaykh include: The Naqshbandi Sufi way, Angels Unveiled, Encyclopedia of Islamic Doctrine (7 volumes), and Encyclopedia of Muhammad's Women Companions and the Traditions They Related (with Dr. L. Bakhtiar). Shaykh Kabbani is the chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of America, a religious organization based in Washington, D.C.

The "Salafi" Movement Unveiled

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani

ISBN: 9781871031492
Pages: 140 pages

The "Salafi" Movement Unveiled is a refutation of attacks upon the legitimacy of the Naqshbandi Sufi Way within the context of traditional Islamic beliefs and practices.

The attempt to delegitimize mysticism by established or ruling "orthodoxy" is nothing new, and the fact that the Naqshbandi Order is the most prominent and visible face of classical Islamic spirituality makes it a prime target for such attacks.

Although the nature of the landscape has changed significantly with the political events of the beginning of the 21st century, it is still not unlikely that Sufism will be criticized by more radical and extreme interpreters of religion. For those who would like to better understand the dynamics of such conflict within the Islamic tradition, this little handbook is an excellent primer into the finer points of the debate between the classicalists and the fundamentalists.

In the Shadow of Saints

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 9781930409323

A wise person once said, "Our bodies come new, but our spirits are ancient. When packaged together, this strange combination can work miracles." With today's global issues of violence, lack of racial and religious tolerance and the void of spiritual leadership, people are losing hope and falling away from the old establishments of faith, as they are constantly failing to offer solutions and peace of mind. That is one of the many reasons why people today are adapting the "new age" school of thought-seeking alternative means to find a light to guide them amidst the present spiritual darkness and material exuberance. But we are living in this moment, that of a new century and new generations. Every generation is identified by its great thinkers, its great philosophers, its great leaders; those who enlighten that generation by their great service towards mankind, not only for their time, but for all to follow. Those great personalities that transcend space and time become legends. They are heroes of the new age and we are living in the age of such new heroes. Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani is such a personality. He is a new type of teacher who teaches without teaching; a new age guru who melts hearts without holding a single session of Sufi gathering; a new age shaykh who inspires and illuminates the seeking heart without moving his lips.

Have you ever wondered: What are the beliefs and doctrine of mainstream Islam as opposed to those who call themselves "Salafis" with regard to the Names and Attributes of Almighty Allah?

The author says in the introduction: "Scholars have observed that the Community's greatest achievement over the past millennium has undoubtedly been its internal intellectual cohesion. They point out how, from the beginning of the Islamic era to almost the present day, Muslims have maintained an astounding sense of unity despite the clash of the numerous dynasties under which they lived. No major religious hostilities have divided Muslims. At least, this was true until the physical and intellectual assault on Islamic unity initiated by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1703-1792CE), his immediate successors and by the self-named "Salafi" sect of the present day.

The author then explains how the beliefs held by the Wahhabi "Salafi" as opposed to the beliefs held by mainstream Islam are threatening every Muslim's Islamic heritage. He offers this work and its proofs on the real Islam to those who wish to decide for themselves.

Angels Unveiled

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 9781567445145
Pages: 260 pages
Dimensions: 7.1 x 7.1 x 0.7 inches

Angels take any form they wish in the physical world. As crystal water takes the form of the cup in which it is poured, angels can take the form of any creation which they visit. They do not retain their full original form of light when they are sent to human beings: "Say: If there were in the earth angels walking secure, We had sent down for them from heaven an angel [without change] as messenger" (17:95). Angels can come as birds, as human beings, or as a form of light like a rainbow adorning the sky. They have a mind and a heart, but no will and no desire other than to serve and obey God. They are never too proud to obey Him.

Angels worship day and night without fatigue. They do not need to sleep, as their eyes never tire. They know no heedlessness. Their attention never wavers. Their food is glorification of God, their drink is to sanctify and to magnify Him. Their intimacy is in calling their Lord through hymning and singing His praise. Their enjoyment is to serve Him. They are devoid of any and all physiological restraints. They suffer no mood-changes.

Angels inhabit
Paradise and the seven heavens. They worship more than human beings because they came before them and they have greater and more powerful faculties than they. They are more pious than human beings because they are innocent and unable to fall into mistakes or wrongdoings. They never ask forgiveness for themselves but always for human beings. This shows us how much they care for us and to what extent God created them to look after us. God made them our guardians because a guardian is more perfect than the one he guards.
Angels are more knowledgeable than human beings. The teacher, again, is better than the student. Their knowledge is of two kinds: intellectual and traditional. "Intellectual" means here: "of the essence of reality" or "of the heart." "Traditional" means: "revealed and translated down from above."

Illuminations

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 9781930409521

This compilation of lectures delivered by author Shaykh Kabbani in various venues throughout the United States and in international venues, include a presentation on spiritual Islam to HRH Prince Charles of England, and lectures made at conferences before the Vice President of Indonesia and a conference in Malaysia on addressing the spiritual aspects of psychology. While in most circumstances, Naqshbandi Sufi masters do not speak from a written text-rather speaking from inspirations to the heart-in order to accommodate academic norms and forms of presentation, Shaykh Kabbani has written these detailed lectures regarding Shari'ah and Tasawwuf to accompany what he presented orally, as inspired through his heart by his teacher Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani. In these talks, Shaykh Kabbani presents the traditional Islamic perspective on a number of important issues of the day, focusing on the adaptability of classical Islam to the needs of the time, exigencies of social and cultural change and the advent of new approaches and methodologies in a number of facets of life. At the same time, Shaykh Kabbani brings an unusual perspective to modern day issues, relating them to aspects of the psyche and an individual's spiritual condition as well as societal impact and relationships and their impact on observance of Divine Law. Shaykh Kabbani is able to present complex issues in the light of potent relevant modern-day examples from modern science while simultaneously relating them to the traditional understanding of classical Islam and the normative practices and unparalleled perfection found in the example of Prophet Muhammad.

Universe Rising

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 9781930409484
Pages: 284 pages

Within the traditional doctrine of Islam lies a stupendous vision of creation. The Prophetic Reality stands before us a fountain, a point of origin for all creation, a root source of all we know or can imagine. While the theories of modern scientists seek to deftly calculate the state and position of matter and energy of the primordial universe, the Prophet sees and comprehends the cosmos at its cutting edge, its actual emergence from non-existence to existence. Thus, beyond bouncing electrons and jets of plasma, a superhuman intelligence is brought into the picture. Creation unfolds in a series of all-encompassing Divine Names. This floods into the realm of our world as it passes by the Perfect Messenger. He sees, he understands and he passes on to us its secrets. Drawing on the teachings of his spiritual master, author Shaykh Hisham Kabbani explores the implications of this doctrine and brings it to us in terms of today's conditions.

Symphony of Remembrance

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 1930409494
Pages: 188 pages
Dimensions: 6 x 9 in or 22.9 x 15.2 cm

This book presents the spiritual background behind the practice of Divine Remembrance, as it initiates the reader into the teachings of the ancient yet living tradition of mystical Islam - the Sufi Way of the Naqshbandi masters of Central Asia. Aimed at those unfamiliar with the terminology of this Path, this book presents the healing power of God's remembrance as a central pillar in the science of spiritual wayfaring and ascent. The path of self-realization asserts that knowledge of the soul is the most essential realm of understanding: "the foundations of psychotherapy in truth should rest upon an understanding of the interrelatedness of the soul, its Source, and the world it inhabits." By means of gnostic interpretations of Quranic scripture, the life stories of divine messengers and their inheritors the saints, the author offers perceptive psychological insights into the journey from patterns of anger, depression and attachment by means of exercises of Divine Remembrance and meditation, by which the six powers latent in every human heart are unveiled, strengthened and concentrated. Filled with counsel and guidance, this work invites those within and outside of the Sufi tradition to step up their spiritual 'game.' Through Remembrance of the Divine, higher levels of attainment can be achieved and maintained, and the connection to the seeker's true inner self can be established and expanded, providing the practitioner with a lifeline to the Divine Presence.

Mawlid ad-Dayba’i

Penulis: Syekh 'Abd ar-Rahman ad-Dayba’i
Disusun oleh: Syekh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani QS
ISBN 1-930409-43-5

We say, and we are not shy to say it: Prophet Muhammad SAW is our Light; Prophet Muhammad SAW is our Heart; Prophet Muhammad SAW is our Life.

For without our beloved Prophet SAW, we would never have been guided to know Allah SWT, the Mighty and Sublime, nor of the Angels, the prophets, the books of revelation nor of the Afterlife.

When our master 'Ali RA was asked about the strength of his devotion to Allah's Prophet SAW, he replied: “By Allah SWT, we cherished him more than we did our children, our parents and all of our possessions. He was much dearer to us than fresh water is for a thirsty soul.” Such was the esteem and the honor the Prophet SAW was held in by his Companions. By the same token, the hearts of true believers ought to be filled with similar devotion to the Prophet SAW.

Sending blessings on Allah's Beloved SAW is certainly the best way of invoking him, in compliance with the command of the Lord Almighty. In thus blessing him we show him gratitude and acknowledge his countless favors to us. To send blessings on the Prophet SAW is only a negligible payment for the unending benefits and good we have seen through him. In truth, to thank the Prophet SAW is to thank Allah SWT, and Allah SWT Himself is Champion and Supporter of those who honor His Beloved Messenger SAW. Blessing the Prophet SAW is a token of devotion, obedience and the highest form of worship to bring the believer closer to Allah SWT. The Almighty reserves the best rewards and the most complete forgiveness for those who continually bless His Prophet SAW. Suffice it to point out in this respect that it is out of honor and commendation of His Prophet SAW that Allah SWT revealed this Quranic verse starting with His Divine Self and followed by His Angels, orders His servants thus:

“Allah SWT and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet SAW; O ye who believe! Send your blessings on him and salute him with all respect.”

Following this verse, obligating believers to praise the Prophet SAW, Allah SWT then describes the incomparable Bounty that He is:

”Allah SWT did confer a great favor on the believers, when He sent among them a messenger from among themselves, rehearsing unto them the signs of Allah SWT, purifying them and instructing them in the Book and wisdom, while before that, they had been in manifest error.”

In obedience to the Divine Order and in expression of our love and admiration for the Treasure house of Allah's Munificence and the Manifestation of the Reality of The Almighty's Divine Names and Attributes, and in the blessed tradition of our ancestors and predecessors in faith, we present this book of perfumed verse dedicated to the love of our Master, and the Master of All Creation, Prophet Muhammad SAW, upon whom be the choices of Allah's peace and blessings, and upon his Family, Companions, House and Followers, up to the Day of Rising.

Keys To The Divine Kingdom

“If your children do not know how to swim, you give them a vessel to ride from the shore of darkness to safety, from the shore of difficulties to peacefulness, from the shore of hatred to love, from the shore of anarchy to harmony, from the shore of terrorism and violence to peacefulness and satisfaction. Therein is Paradise for them, and to lead them there is the responsibility of saints.”

Keys to the Divine Kingdom is a transcript of highly coveted talks by a living Sufi saint, a true man of God, delivered at mainstream universities, conferences, and interfaith sessions. A prominent scholar of classical Islam, Shaykh Kabbani’s teachings draw upon the vast reservoir of Sufi wisdom, which is the inner spirit of Islam, without which the religion itself could not survive. Our physical forms in this earthly life reflect our heavenly forms. This book examines laws governing the universe, and from this starting point, jumps into the realm of spiritual knowledge -- Sufi teachings which must be “tasted” as opposed to merely professed. This practical book exposes the mystical path which transports us from the world of forms and senses to the world within the heart, a world filled with wonders and blessings.

One of the distinguished schools of Islamic spiritual discipline, the Naqshbandi Sufi Order has a long and illustrious history from the first days of Islam. Led by the shaykhs of the Golden Chain-inheritors of spiritual knowledge from Prophet Muhammad-the Naqshbandi Order has always played a central, pivotal role in the life of people in the Muslim world and survived the turmoil and tribulations of the past century to remain one of the few authentic mystical traditions maintaining a living link with its ancient past. The extraordinary vision of the Naqshbandi Saints was manifest in their establishment of fixed devotions and daily practices firmly rooted in the Qur'an and Sunnah of the Prophet. These practices have enabled devout seekers to awaken certainty of belief and to attain stations of nearness to the Divine Presence. The renewed prominence of this order at the turn of the 21st century, due to the indefatigable striving of Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, signals an impending change to our society in which aspirants to Divine Service will be granted to transcend the bounds of the physical senses in order to fulfill the unexplored potential in each human heart. Classical Islam

Considered one of the most distinguished schools of Islamic spirituality, the Naqshbandi Sufi Order has a long and illustrious history reaching back to the first days of Islam. Led by the Shaykhs of the Golden Chain — inheritors of the spiritual knowledge of the Prophets and Saints — the Naqshbandi Order has always played a central, pivotal role in the life of the Muslim world and has survived the turmoil and tribulations of the past century to remain one of the few authentic mystical traditions maintaining a living link with its ancient past.

Classical Islam and the Naqshbandi Sufi Tradition is the most detailed and authentic book ever written about a Sufi order in English. Providing a comprehensive history of the Naqshbandi Order, the author Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani, one of the most respected teachers of Islamic spirituality in the world today, traces the lives of its foremost teachers from Prophet Muhammad (saw) to the present. Their life stories are intimately woven with landmark events of history, from the time of the Prophet Muhammad’s Companions to the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the re-emergence of Islam in the former Soviet Union. Furthermore this book details the fundamental principles of the Sufi Path and the primary teachings of the Naqshbandi Order, exploring the doctrines and practices whose goal is nothing less than bringing humankind to its highest potential as the viceregent of God.

The outcome of extensive research, this book is based on the experiences of a traditional Sufi Shaykh over many years. Bringing to bear his voluminous knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence, and combining it with superlative storytelling, Shaykh Kabbani provides the Western reader with a sumptuous spiritual feast – one that can be returned to again, not only for its comprehensive information, but for inspiration and guidance in today’s turbulent world.
