About the Author

Rumi (1207-1273 CE) was by far the greatest of all mystical poets. He speaks to us here through Sufi tales which are a storehouse of knowledge, gnosis and love. Rumi explains spiritual themes through the medium of tales, anecdotes and animal fables drawn from different sources to which he gives a spiritual coloring and makes them his own. Thoughts hang together in free association interspersed with the main story. His style of free association is to interrupt a tale with seemingly unrelated stories and then continue much later on in the tale. This style is experiential, not doctrinal. It does not set forth spiritual experiences and truths with the logical precision of a systematic treatise indicating step by step how the Sufi way leads from the stage of asceticism to that of nearness to God. It is a work of inspiration, a spontaneous outflow couched in the language of emotion and imagination. Spontaneity and inspiration have their own logic.

Islamic Beliefs And Doctrine According to Ahl al-Sunna: A Repudiation of "Salafi" Innovations

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 1871031486

"Two imams have been severely tried because of their followers although they are innocent of them: Ahmad ibn Hanbal was tried with the Mujassima (anthropomorphsits), and Ja'far al-Sadiq was tried with the rafida (rejectionists)." [Shaykh al-Hadith Ibn al-Salah(d.643H.) as quoted by Taj al-Din al-Subki in his Qa'ida fi al-jarhi wa al-ta'dil, p.43] We may add that in later times Islam itself was tried with Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab, who claimed to defend it and uphold its pure doctrine, when in fact they corrupted it and tore apart its community with their confusion. Just as Imam Ahmad is clear of them, Islam and Muslims as a whole are also clear of them.

A Spiritual Commentary on the Chapter of Sincerity

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani
ISBN: 19304094207
Pages: 130 pages

The subject of the present commentary is on Suratu 'l-Ikhlas or the Chapter of Single-Hearted Sincerity. The word ikhlas carries the meaning "to purify" or "to refine" from all impurities. The very concept of refining and purifying signifies the removing all impurities leaving nothing but the essence of which was sought, which, in this case, is Allah. Thus, whoever knows Allah and affirms His Oneness reaches the level of purity or sincerity of heart.

"Purity of heart," it has been said "is to will one thing wholly." And the one who achieves that level is described in Arabic with the adjective, "mukhlis," that is sincere. The virtue of single-hearted devotion to Allah goes to the heart of the religion of Islam. This is hardly surprising. So it is not surprising that tradition holds the reading this chapter just once a reading the entire Qur'an. For the Qur'an in its essence is totally uncompromising proclamation of Divine Unity.

Wisdom by a Sufi Master of Our Time Talks given in 1995 by a Sufi master of our time in England, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Transcribed by Thyra Quensel.

Excerpt: Meditation Most masters today present the method of meditation to you. But usually they do not base on Christianity, or Judaism or Islam, so many people think that it is a method which originated within other religions. But that is not the case. Meditation was a method which was already given to the first man, within the first message, to the first Messenger. What purpose does meditation serve, and how can we reach such a state? It is mentioned in all our Holy Books: the Thora, the Gospels and in the Holy Quran, as a method to reach Divine Presence. When we come face to face with our Creator, we leave everything else behind. Nothing remains except your soul. If I would come and try to hit you with a sword, you would not be harmed. Nothing can touch you physically in such a state, because your physical body will have entered your spiritual being. Normally it is the opposite: our souls are imprisoned in the physical body. In a perfect state of meditation, your souls cover your physical body and you become a spirit. There was once a Grandsheik, Sheik Abdul Qadir al Jilani. While he was meditating he kept saying, "I am the truth!" People around him were offended by this and started attacking him with swords, but nothing happened to him. They could not touch him. When Maulana Rumi was in real meditation, he would be whirling and lift off the ground. He had full connection with the Divine Presence. According to our traditional knowledge, rneditation has so many steps before reaching the top point. If you keep those rules, real meditation can come to you any time. Everyone must try within the rules which exist in their religion, to praise the Lord first, in the way the prophets taught us. We can then sit in a silent place, preferably in the dark, cover ourselves and withdraw from everything around us. We should not hear or feel anything, only think that we are one within the existence of the Lord Almighty Allah in the Divine Presence. Even if it only lasts for 5 minutes, it will give us power. This will then increase and make peace-falcons out of peace-doves. If a terrorist even looks at you, he will fall down. With meditation you can attain ultra-power. Don't think that meditation is something easy. It is the most important power which has been given to mankind.

Excerpt: Try to be Holy! Islam teaches humanity the most precious characteristics of mankind. It tries to take man from the lowest level to the highest. That is the mission of Islam and the mission of all prophets. All of them declared this. The last prophet came with the Last Message of the Lord. He is calling you to be clean and to come to His Divine Presence. Oh believers, oh mankind, try to be clean in your physical body, in your thoughts, in your hearts, in your mind, in your work and in all your dealings. Try to be serious and sincere for your divine service. Do the other religions; Christianity or Judaism teach anything else? Try to be true, trustworthy and beloved by the people around you. Try to make many more friends here. That will make you happy here and in the hereafter. Don't make enemies! Don't be envious! Try to give your best service to your Lord the Almighty Allah. Give your best to everybody in the big family of mankind. Then you will be holy and you will be accepted within the Divine Presence. You will be rewarded with enlightenment. Be an enlightened person, don't be without lights. You will be asked if you are bringing any lights from this life. Try to take the lights of Heaven with you from this life to the next, to the hereafter. 157 pages, Paperback

About the Author:
Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani is the world leader of the most distinguished Naqshbandi order of Sufis. Shaykh Nazim is both a scholar of the Divine Law, being the mufti of Turkish Cyprus, as well s the Shaykh of the Way (tariqah).
A resident of Turkish Cyprus, he was born in Larnaca, Cyprus on April 23, 1922. He is a descendant of the family of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and the mercy of God be upon him, on both his mother and his father's side, being both a Hasani and Husayni Sayyid. On his father's side, he is a descendant of Sayyid Abdul Qadir Gilani, the founder of the Qadiri Sufi order and n his mother's side, his ancestry comes from Jalal al-Din Rumi, the founder of the Mawlawi Sufi order.
Shaykh Nazim finished high school in Cyprus in 1940. He then traveled to Istanbul for higher education. He studied at the University of Istanbul, completing an MA in Chemical Engineering. During his years in Istanbul, he also completed the requirements of the Divine Law and Arabic language. He received his permission from Shaykh Jamal al-Lassuni. Shaykh Nazim then directed his attention to the study of the spiritual path of seven Sufi orders: Naqshbandi, Chishti, Qadiri, Mawlawi, Rifai, Shadhili and Badawi. He then increased his study of the Naqshbandi order under his shaykh at that time, Sulayman Arzurumi. After a few years. Shaykh Sulayman told him, O my son, the one who is carrying your secrets is not me, but my spiritual teacher who migrated from Daghistan to Turkey and who is now residing in Damascus in the Median district. He is known as the Master of the Golden Chain of the Naqshbandi order in our time.
Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani then moved to Syria. On the way to Damascus, he first visited Aleppo, Hama and Homs. In Homs, under the direction of his Shaykh, stayed for one year in seclusion in the mosque and tomb of the famous Companion of the Prophet, Khalid ibn Walid. There he received more intensive instruction in the Divine Law, the Traditions and the Science of the Quran under the Shaykhs Muhammad Ali Uyun as-Suud, Abdul Aziz Uyun as-Suud, mufti of Homs, Abdul Jalil Murad and Sayyid as-Subai, who are all Naqshbandi shaykhs as well as famous scholars of the Traditions and religious scholars of the Divine Law.
In 1944 he moved to Tripoli, Lebanon, where he was the guest of Shaykh Munir al-Malik, the mufti of northern Lebanon and Shaykh of the Qadir, Rifai and Naqshbandi Sufi orders. In 1945 he went from Tripoli to Damascus to Hai al-Midan where he finally met Shaykh Abdullah ad-Daghistan an-Naqshbandi. He stayed with his Grand Shaykh until his Grand Shaykh passed away on October 4, 1973. During that period of almost forty years, Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani continued to receive the heavenly foundation of spiritual knowledge which poured forth from the heart of Shaykh Abdullah ad-Daghistani into his heart.
Shaykh Nazim continuously traveled to the Middle East and Turkey during these 40 years. Upon the death of his Grand Shaykh and by his spiritual order, he enlarged his scope of travel to include Europe, America and the Far East. He established hundreds of centers all over the world, spreading Islam together with Sufi spiritual knowledge which has brought hundreds of thousands of converts to Islam. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he is the mujaddid of this century as was Sayyid Abdul Qadir Gilani, in his time; Shah Bahaudin Naqshband, in his time; Sayyid Ahmad al-Faruqi, in his time; and Jalal al-Din Rumi, in his time.
Shaykh Nazim carries the secret of seven Sufi orders: Naqshband, Chishti, Qadiri, Mawlana, Rifai, Shadhili and Badawi, through a chain of authorization from his master, Shaykh Abdullah ad-Daghistani, through the chain of 39 Grand Shaykhs linking him to the Prophet.
He has entered many seclusions during his lifetime ranging in duration from 40 days to one year. These took place in many different places including the Prophet's city, Madinah, Baghdad in the presence of Sayyid Abdul Qadir Gilani, Konya in the presence of Jalal al-Din Rumi and Damascus at many holy places. He has written numerous books on spirituality and Divine Knowledge (gnosis) which have been published throughout the world. He has written many poems on Divine Law in both Arabic and Turkish. He is a source for many modern juristic matters. He follows a moderate line in approaching people and issues of contemporary life.
Shaykh Nazim has a very charismatic personality which moves people and attracts them to the manifestation of Divine Love which continues to pour forth from his heart. His resplendent smile is ever present. When he speaks, it is as if a divinely-inspired waterfall had been opened connecting has heart to the hearts of the listeners. It is that nectar of love that draws thousands of new converts to Islam every year.

Guide to Goodness (Dalail al-khayrat)

Author: Imam al-Jazuli
ISBN: 9781930637269
Pages: 152 pages

This first English translation of one of the most famous Islamic prayers has become available in this bilingual edition. This prayer, recited by Muslims throughout the world, is a prayer to ask for blessings upon the Prophet in order to receive blessings from God for both the Prophet and the reciter. Dala’il al- Khayrat wa Shawariq al-Anwar fi Dhikr al-Salat ‘ala al- Nabi al-Mukhtar (The Guide to Blessings and the Advent of Light in Blessing the Chosen Prophet). Composed in Morocco in the fifteenth century, Dala’il al-Khayrat quickly spread throughout the Muslim world, from Turkey, to East Africa, to Sumatra. The reason for al-Jazuli’s writing Dala’il al-Khayrat was that one day he was late for his prayers, even though it was his custom to seek the approval of God the Exalted by not delaying a prayer beyond the earliest possible time for its performance. When he arose to make his ablutions, however, he was unable to find anything with which to take water out of the well. This preoccupied him greatly and he was very annoyed. While he was in this state a young girl caught sight of him from a high place and said, “Who are you, uncle?” The sheikh then told her about himself, hoping that she would give him a bucket and thus ease his cares and worries. Instead the girl exclaimed, “You are the one whom people praise greatly, yet you are unable to take water from a well in order to purify yourself !” Then she came down from that high place and spat into the well while reciting the Name of the Lord of Creation. No sooner had she done so than water tasting as sweet as the sweetest sugar poured forth from the well until it spilled over the face of the earth as a miracle from the One who rolls up the scroll of time. The sheikh made his ablution and marveled at this splendid miracle. When he finished, he swore by God Almighty that the girl should reveal to him how she had acquired this great rank. “By making constant prayers on the Best of Creation (may God bless and preserve him) to the number of breaths and heartbeats (bi-’adad al-anfas wa al-daqa’iq),” she replied. So al-Jazuli resolved at that moment to write a book about the excellence of prayers on behalf of the Chosen Prophet and to include in it many transmitted texts from the mine of prophecy and from those who have drowned in the sea of the effusion of God’s abundant generosity. All of this (which was due to what he perceived in this great miracle) would not have been possible had it not been for this girl, who was devoted to reciting prayers on the Adornment of the Last Day (zayn al-qiyama). Al-Jazuli took the Shadhili tariqa from Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad Amghar al-Saghir (d.) of Ribat Tit-n- Fitr. After taking part in the resistance to the Portuguese at Tangier in , he went into seclusion (khalwa). Some historians claim that he worshiped in isolation for fourteen years; while others maintain that he traveled east for sometime, reciting Dala’il al-Khayrat twice each morning to the Prophet (God bless him and give him peace) in Medina.Upon his reemergence in , al-Jazuli established a zawiya at the Atlantic port city of Asafi. Al-Jazuli was “frequent in reciting litanies (awrad), observant of God most High in all his states, not exceeding the boundaries God established, and exerting himself in following the Book of God and the example of his Messenger (God bless him and give him peace).” He founded the Shadhiliyya Jazuliyya order, with Dala’il al-Khayrat at its core, and over ,disciples received spiritual training (tarbiya) at his hands. Later writers describe the nature of al-Jazuli’s relationship with the Prophet (God bless him and give him peace): there mixed, in his person, “the two loves”—the love one feels for the Prophet due to religion, and the love one feels for one’s kinsfolk (mahabba al-diniyya wa al-tiniyya).Al-Jazuli died in while prostrating during the morning prayer, the victim of poisoning. He was later buried at Riyadh al-’Arus in Marrakesh. Known in the local dialect as “Sidi Ben Sliman,” he is one of the seven patron saints of Marrakesh. He left Dala’il al-Khayrat as a testament to his immense love and longing for the Prophet (God bless him and give him peace): O God, I believed in Muhammad but did not see him; do not deprive me in the Gardens of his vision. Bestow his company upon me and cause me to die in his religion. Let me drink from his pool a quenching, pleasant, delightful drink after which we shall never thirst again. You are powerful over everything. O God, convey to the soul of Muhammad my greetings and peace. O God, as I believed in Muhammad but did not see him, do not deprive me in the Gardens of his vision. The Approach of Armageddon?

A Chronicle of Scientific Breakthroughs and World Events that Occur During the Last Days, as Foretold by Prophet Muhammad. Many people are acquainted with Biblical prophecies regarding the end of the world, but how many know what the second-largest faith, Islam, has foretold? Time-honored beliefs held by one-fifth of the world’s population, but little known in the West, are expertly presented in this compelling book. A classical scholar from one of the Middle East's most prestigious religious schools, the author has studied classical Islamic teachings for more than forty years. In this timely work, he examines divine revelation and holy traditions about the Last Days, along with discoveries of modern science foretold in Islam’s holiest texts. Also included are often concealed ancient predictions of Islam regarding the appearance of the anti-Christ, Armageddon, the leadership of believers by Mahdi (i.e. "the Savior"), the second coming of Jesus Christ, and the tribulations preceding the Day of Judgment. The author weaves a fascinating mix of interpretations and detailed narratives of Prophet Muhammad which provide a roadmap of the future and analysis of the past. Though terrifying in their import, we are given final hope of a time on earth filled with peace, reconciliation and prosperity, an age in which, "There will be but one community on earth where lions, tigers and wolves shall graze side by side with camels, cattle and sheep. All enmity and wars will end, while wealth is overflowing. No person shall be in need and the entire focus of life will be spirituality." This unprecedented work is a "must read" for religious scholars and laypersons interested in broadening their understanding of centuries-old religious traditions pertaining to the Last Days. He then presents several leading female figures from Islamic history whose exemplary lives truly demonstrate the honor and power God has bestowed upon women. The "Salafi" Movement Unveiled

Author: Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani

ISBN: 9781871031492
Pages: 140 pages

The "Salafi" Movement Unveiled is a refutation of attacks upon the legitimacy of the Naqshbandi Sufi Way within the context of traditional Islamic beliefs and practices.

The attempt to delegitimize mysticism by established or ruling "orthodoxy" is nothing new, and the fact that the Naqshbandi Order is the most prominent and visible face of classical Islamic spirituality makes it a prime target for such attacks.

Although the nature of the landscape has changed significantly with the political events of the beginning of the 21st century, it is still not unlikely that Sufism will be criticized by more radical and extreme interpreters of religion. For those who would like to better understand the dynamics of such conflict within the Islamic tradition, this little handbook is an excellent primer into the finer points of the debate between the classicalists and the fundamentalists.

Every generation is identified by its great thinkers, its great philosophers, its great leaders; those who enlighten that generation by their great service towards mankind, not only for their time, but for all to follow. Those great personalities that transcend space and time become legends. They are heroes of the new age and we are living in the age of such new heroes. Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani is such a personality.
